Sports & Performing Arts Injuries

Maple Leaf Physical Therapy Sports Rehabilitation Program was designed to treat sports related injuries in adolescent, collegiate, recreational, and professional athletes. Our expert physical therapists understand the complexity of athletic injuries. Competitive as well as recreational athletes are thoroughly assessed then treated with high tech modalities such as deep tissue lasers along with advanced exercise techniques (blood flow resistance training and isokinetic). Our advanced technologies along with other “return to sport testing” provide information necessary to help your athlete safely return to game day readiness.

  • Pain ManagementOur deep tissue laser combines the cellular healing properties of photobiostimulation with thermally produced deep circulation for relief of pain.

  • Pneumatic CompressionUtilized for rapid reduction of swelling. This decreases the time of immobilization for the athlete and/or performing arts person.

  • BiofeedbackThe mTrigger EMG device calculates the level of neuromuscular deficit caused by the injury. Our physical therapists then analyze the data to design patient specific training programs using real time myoelectric feedback from the affected muscles.

  • Alter-G Anti-Gravity Treadmillwhy delay gait training until the athlete and/or performing arts person can take full weight on their injury. This vehicle uses patented differential air pressure technology to unweight the person to as little as 20% of body weight in precise 1% increments for low-impact pain-free movement. Real-time gait data, pain recording, and live video monitoring improve immediate decision-making with objective, measurable information, and visual feedback.

  • Blood Flow Resistance TrainingBlood flow restriction training involves applying a cuff or wrap on the affected limb (e.g., the top of the leg or top of the arm) to partially restrict blood flow into the limb. This restriction is combined with low-load resistance exercise or low-intensity aerobic exercise, which results in producing benefits like high load or higher intensity exercise.

  • IsokineticIs a multi-faceted device used for both diagnostics and training. The patient/athlete is tested on the device to determine deficits in strength at different velocities of motion. Training programs range from simple passive range of motion in the early stages of injury to high levels strength and power programs.
